Yamagata City Walking Tour

Yamagata City is the booming heart of Yamagata Prefecture and in addition to being surrounded by pristine nature, hosting a rich culinary scene, and is known for its vibrant nightlife, the city also boasts a deep cultural history that precedes even the days of the samurai.

Come along with a knowledgeable local guide on a half-day tour of four of Yamagata City’s most beloved museums and historical landmarks; the Mogami Yoshiaki Historical Museum, the Old Saiseikan Hospital Building, the Yamagata Museum of Art, and the Bunshokan.

These cherished monuments of Yamagata history do not have English information and so if you want to truly feel as if you have experienced Yamagata City in its entirety, then this is the tour for you!

The tour itself is around three hours in length and can be adjusted and is flexible to fit the pace and interests of participants. Included in the tours are a bilingual guide and the tickets of admission for all historic sites visited.

Reviews

When Japanese museums don't have information in English, I usually just kind of rush through them but having a guide was really worth it as I felt that I could actually appreciate the history rather than just see the artifacts. My favorite museum was the art museum and the guide was really knowledgeable about the pieces on display.

I would have never expected that a place like Yamagata would have pieces from artists like Monet, Van Gogh, and Matisse! The Japanese art was nice too!

Alex, the tour guide, was flexible and accommodating to meet our wishes and desires about how we wanted to spend our time throughout the tour, leading to a perfectly timed tour with just enough time at each location.
