When Japanese museums don't have information in English, I usually just kind of rush through them but having a guide was really worth it as I felt that I could actually appreciate the history rather than just see the artifacts. My favorite museum was the art museum and the guide was really knowledgeable about the pieces on display.

I would have never expected that a place like Yamagata would have pieces from artists like Monet, Van Gogh, and Matisse! The Japanese art was nice too!
